Treatment Process

How does it work?
Your plastic surgeon will likely:

  • Evaluate your medical history and overall health
  • Discuss your expectations for breast size and appearance before the surgery
  • Provide a detailed description of the procedure and its risks and benefits, including likely scarring and possible loss of sensation
  • Examine and measure your breasts
  • Take photographs of your breasts for your medical record or you might want to provide the photos in advance to get a faster, personalized consultation.
  • Explain the type of anesthesia used during surgery

Breast surgeries are conducted under general anesthesia, and this means most patients must stay at the surgical center overnight. Augmentations and lifts can be carried out at the same time or as standalone procedures. Depending on the extent of the alterations, these treatments generally take two to four hours to complete. Techniques used to remove breast skin and reshape breast tissue vary. The specific technique your plastic surgeon chooses will determine the location of the incisions and the resulting scars. Once the incisions are sutured, a compression garment is placed over your breasts to protect the soft tissue. Recovering from breast surgery takes anywhere from two to three weeks.
