  1. . Will breast augmentation increase my risk of breast cancer?

Many studies have shown that women who get implants are not at an increased risk for getting breast cancer. In addition, implants do not delay the detection of breast cancer. Numerous studies show that having implants does not hinder the patient or their physician in finding breast tumors.

  1. Will my nipple sensation or feeling change?

Most women will have loss of some feeling or sensation following breast augmentation surgery. For most of them, this lasts 6-12 months before returning to normal.

  1. Is it best to have the implant placed above or below the muscle?

In most cases, it is preferable to have the implant placed beneath the muscle.  This provides a more natural result, decreases the risk of capsular contracture, and makes future mammograms easier.

  1. Where are the incisions made, and are there any visible breast reduction scars?

Incisions are usually made within the natural folds under the breasts, sometimes around the areolae, and in a line from the crease to the areolae. Some procedures require only a keyhole incision (LeJour lift). The surgery is not a minor one and breast reduction scars should be expected. Unnecessary scarring is generally avoided.

  1. When will I be able to see the results?

You should notice the difference in breast volume immediately. If the procedure was due to back pain associated with very large breasts, pain relief is usually immediate. After the swelling subsides, you will begin to notice a difference in the compact appearance of your breasts.

  1. What is the long-term outcome like for most people who have breast reduction?

No discomfort, a more active lifestyle, and a more youthful appearance.

  1. What does a typical breast reduction consultation entail?

First, your doctor will discuss your goals with you and explain what can realistically be achieved. A surgeon should take into account your hip size when determining your new breast size. Removing too much breast tissue will make your hips look large by comparison, giving you a pear shape. Obviously, you can request significant removal, although you may want to consider this balance when determining your end size.

  1. Will I be able to breastfeed after having implants?

Pregnancy and breastfeeding are not affected by breast augmentation, and most women can successfully breastfeed after breast augmentation. However, pregnancy and breastfeeding may change the shape of your augmented breasts. Also, if you have nursed a baby within the year before augmentation, you may produce milk for a few days after surgery. This may cause some discomfort, but can be treated with medication prescribed by your doctor.

  1. How is a Breast Lift Different from Breast Implants?

A breast lift focuses on improving the appearance of your existing breasts by lifting and reshaping your natural breast tissue. Implants only add additional volume but they don’t change the placement of the breast on your body. A breast lift can enhance the appearance of your figure without the need for artificial implants. This procedure can be combined with a traditional breast augmentation for more comprehensive results.

  1. What is the recovery period like?

Recovery time depends on the individual and the extent of the procedure, but usually follows a general pattern. The first few days are the most uncomfortable, but pain and discomfort can easily be controlled with prescribed medications and will soon decrease. Bruising and swelling may persist for several weeks. The results will continue to improve for up to one year. The discomfort is initially greater if an implant is placed behind the chest muscle (pectoralis) at the time of the breast lift.

  1. Does breast enhancement surgery require any prior medical tests?

If you are due for a mammogram, then this should be done prior to surgery. As with all surgeries, routine lab work is done as well.

  1.  What about Scarless Breast Reduction?

Scarless breast reduction refers to reduction surgery performed through liposuction alone. Although liposuction can remove excess fat in the breasts, this procedure by itself will not correct the position of the breasts or remove any glandular tissue. Most women need the combination approach that a full breast reduction and breast lift procedure offers for the best results.

  1. How long does the breast implant procedure take?

Cases may differ, but on average breast augmentation surgery lasts one to two hours.

  1. How long does breast augmentation surgery take?

Possible breast augmentation surgery risks include:
